Nrithya Vidhya Niketan

Vidhya was a teacher at the Kanaka Sabha institute for Dance in Mumbai as one of the senior students of her Gurus.. After moving to Austin and continuing her own dance performances for a few years, Vidhya felt an urge to put to good use to her decades of teaching experience too. She started the Nrithya Vidhya Niketan school for Bharathanatyam dance in 2014 in Austin. The name stands for the Home/Temple of Dance Learning and aptly captures Vidhya’s mission to promote the art form among a new generation. While Bharathanatyam is a highly structured dance form with a vast repertoire, it also provides a great platform for expressing one self as Vidhya has discovered to her joy. Through Nrithya Vidhya Niketan, Vidhya strives to inculcate the same passion and dedication she has for Bharathanatyam amongst her students creating a new generation of advocates for the Art that has helped define her. Its strict regimen and practice helps inculcate focus, discipline and fitness among the students, helping them even beyond the knowledge and practice of an ancient but very much alive art form. Vidhya’s students carry forward the performing tradition presenting across various cultural and religious platforms in Austin.
